PURSUE THE FITNESS THINGS

Hello.

I hope you had a lovely Easter and are enjoying the very rare sunshine we have been fortunate enough to experience over the past few days. My weekend was absolutely lovely and filled with lots of smiles, yummy food, duck feeding and a spot of egg painting, plus copious amounts of giggles from a sugar filled Isobel, who was adamant it was her birthday.
Hide and seek fun in the woods
Spurred on by the glorious (but hideously cold) weather, I have decided to begin the pursuit of something else from my list; Number 3. Get fit.

I eat well and mainly only fresh and whole foods, I avoid processed foods and things stuffed with fat (unless I'm offered a donner kebab, in which case I make an exception ... I disgust even myself) and occasionally partake in a spot of at home working out, but, I'm rubbishly unfit.
It hasn't always been that way though.
Last year I took up jogging and strangely enjoyed it. It was not so much the physical act of running that I enjoyed (I'm not mental or a masochist) but more the achievement and pride at actually making it to the end without keeling over into an embarrassing pile of huffy puffy panting sweatiness. Each time I went out to jog I saw an improvement in distance, time and my general fitness levels and it felt pretty darn good. Apart from the time I forgot to stretch after my run. That felt bad. Really bad.
My goal last year was to train and improve enough to be able to jog the majority of 5K ready for the Race for Life in August, which may not sound like much of an achievement to some but for lazy old run-a-phobe me, it was a big deal.
I rather proudly did it, but unfortunately after that I lost my fitness oomph. I found myself without a goal or a reason to get going. The weather got colder, the evenings got darker, I was tired, I had cake that needed eating. You name it. The excuses rolled in and the desire to jog *excuse the pun* jogged on.
So ... Here I go again!
I'm not giving up as easily as last time, partly because people will read this and know how rubbish I am if I do give up and partly because it sucks to have to start all over again, especially when I got so far the last time. Mainly though, my whole new 'I can do it' determined frame of mind is focussed on what I'll gain from sticking at it and how good I'll feel when I start seeing those results and changes.
There are a ton of great websites out there (here or here for example) that can help you get started if you want to get jogging. There are also plenty of beginner runner plans such as the couch to 5k program that can give you focus and guidance.
I've decided to simply set myself a 'mile a day' challenge to get me going. Whether that be a mile of walking or jogging, as long as I get my trainers on every day and get my bum up and out of the Jade shaped indentation in the sofa, I'm happy.
Following these 7 tips for beginner runners is always a good start, but I think as long as I stick to it, stay realistic and keep focussed on the progress I make, I will be fine and back into the swing of it in no time.
If not, I always have Ryan Gosling to help me reach my end goal ...
